Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Nagpur and paid tribute to the founder of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Dr. K.B. Hedgewar. He was accompanied by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat during this visit. The occasion marked a significant moment to honor Dr. Hedgewar, who is credited with founding the RSS in 1925, an organization focused on promoting the values of nationalism, unity, and cultural pride in India.
During the visit, PM Modi highlighted the contribution of Dr. Hedgewar to the nation and praised the RSS’s role in fostering social and cultural unity. The tribute was part of a broader effort to acknowledge the influence of RSS in India’s socio-political landscape.
This visit holds historical significance, being the first by a sitting Prime Minister to the RSS headquarters. It coincided with the RSS’s Pratipada programme, celebrating Gudi Padwa, the Hindu New Year.
Beyond his visit to the Smruti Mandir, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre, an extension of the Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute & Research Centre. He also inaugurated facilities at Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited, including a testing range for loitering munitions and a runway for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Additionally, PM Modi paid respects at Deekshabhoomi, the site where Dr. B.R. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism in 1956, reflecting his commitment to social harmony and equality.
The visit underscores PM Modi’s acknowledgment of the RSS’s foundational role in India’s socio-cultural landscape and his government’s focus on infrastructure and social initiatives in the region.
